Information from the Port of Tacoma:

The 30-year lease with Northwest Innovation Works covers about 90 acres of the former Kaiser site. The lease terms include three phases:

  • Feasibility period (2014-2016): 18 months, which Northwest Innovation Works may extend to 24 months.
  • Construction period (2016-2018): Upon successful completion of a feasibility period, Northwest Innovation Works will build or install such improvements to the site as natural gas processing facilities, storage tanks, containment systems, pipelines and stormwater systems.
  • Full rent period: Includes preferential/non-exclusive use of the East Blair One wharf.

NWIW’s parent company is Shanghai Bi Ke Clean Energy Technology (CECC; Shanghai), a partnership between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Double Green Bridge Hong Kong, an investor group comprising members of CECC management. Product will be exported to Asia for use in methanol-to-olefins (MTO) production facilities. The company has agreed with Xizhong Island Petrochemical Park, at Dalian, China, to feed MTO facilities there, and it will supply other coastal locations in China as well. MTO lines typically use 1.8 million m.t./year of methanol to produce 600,000 m.t./year of olefins.-IHS Chemical Week
