Send Your Health Department Letter Today!
Below is a sample letter to send to the Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health. Let’s fill their inboxes with requests to conduct a Health Impact Assessment of the Puget Sound Energy liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility proposal.
You’re also of course welcome to adapt it or to write your own letter if you prefer, but a strong show of public concern *now* is more important than individually tailored letters.

Here’s a sample letter to adapt:
Dear Board of Health members,
On April 6th 2016, the Pierce County Board of Health unanimously voted that large industrial projects proposed in our communities should undergo a Health Impact Assessment that examines cumulative health impacts and unintended consequences to both the environment and public health not addressed by the city’s environmental review process. Did the board of health follow through with this promise and undertake a Health Impact Assessment for the Puget Sound Energy liquefied natural gas facility?
This gas liquefaction bunkering facility would be the largest in the US, built by PSE, who has never built or run any liquefaction facility before. The facility would run 24/7/365, have flares to burn off methane and emit 87 tons per year of volatile organic compounds, 39.6 tons per year toxic air pollutants, along with other hazardous air pollutants and 20,751 tons per year of greenhouse gases (http://cms.cityoftacoma.org/planning/pse/PSE%20LNG%20FEIS%20revised%20(11-9-2015).pdf ).
I urge the Board of Health to follow up with the promise to protect our citizens from harmful industrial air pollution by conducting a Health Impact Assesment for the PSE LNG project. The PSE LNG facility poses a real risk to nearby workers, detainees, school children and residents.
Thank you for your work in making our health your concern.
